In Fallout Shelter, your vault cannot function properly without Dwellers. If you want more hands and brains to operate your facility, check out this guide on how to get more residents in Fallout Shelter.
Games based on the post-apocalyptic world have been around for a long time and it seems like gamers will never get tired of defeating hordes of zombies. However, Fallout Shelter represents a unique post-apocalyptic society where the damage is already done and now you focus on rebuilding everything from scratch.
Fallout Shelter is all about managing a vault and getting as many people as possible to join it. The residents not only prepare food, water and electricity but also explore the barren land outside for resources.
Now that you know their importance, here’s how to get more dwellers in Fallout Shelter.
Ways to get more people into Fallout Shelter
There are four ways to get more residents in Fallout Shelter:
- reproduction of existing residents
- lunch boxes
- radio studio
- survive in the wasteland
Now, we’ll take a closer look at each method.
Breed existing residents in Fallout Shelter
Place one male and one female resident in the living quarters room of your Vault in Fallout Shelter. After some conversation, they must go to the back room and when they return, the female resident will be pregnant. In about eight hours, she will give birth to a baby who will eventually become the new resident of your Vault.
Couples meet in Fallout Shelter, talk, dance, and then have sex. You can keep an eye on these activities to predict when they will move to the back room. The Dwellers’ charisma also plays a part in getting them hooked quickly.
Note that family members/relatives do not socialize fallout shelter. If placed in the same room, a Hanging Out message appears with the family above them.

Get famous residents from the lunchbox in Fallout Shelter
The lunchbox in Fallout Shelter may contain Legendary Dwellers. You can obtain lunchboxes by completing quests, purchasing them from the in-game store, and encountering the Wasteland.
Each lunchbox deals five cards and the fifth card has a 21.2% and 3.8% chance to be a Rare Dweller and a Legendary Dweller, respectively.
Radio studio broadcasts attract new residents to Fallout Shelter
You can broadcast through the radio studio to attract new residents to Fallout Shelter. A radio studio lets you communicate with outsiders in the wasteland but in the meantime, you can also attract raiders and executioners.
The success of your radio studio largely depends on the charisma of the resident you have assigned to this room. If you can’t build a Radio Studio yet, simply add a total of 20 residents to your Vault and the facility will be unlocked.

Wasteland survivors can become residents in Fallout Shelter
Last but not least, build the Overseer’s Room in Fallout Shelter and send your existing residents on Wasteland missions. Occasionally, they will come across survivors who want to join your Vault as residents.
Breeding existing residents is the most common and reliable way to get more residents in Fallout Shelter, but for best results, you should focus on all of the methods mentioned above.
