How to change Tera Type in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pokémon trainers can change your Pokémon’s tera type to better suit your needs in battle. Here’s how to change Terra typing in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduced the Terrestrial Phenomenon to the franchise. This experience is unique to Pokémon in the Paldia region and gives them the ability to take on a new type with a major stat boost.

Pokémon can only have one Terra Type at a time, but it is possible to change your Pokémon’s Terra Type if needed. Trainers must follow this process to change a Pokémon’s Terra type to Scarlet and Violet.

How to find Terra Type Pokémon in Scarlet Violet

For starters, standard Pokémon caught in the wild will have a Terra type that matches their original type. For example, a Psyduck will always have a Water Terra type.

A dual-type Pokémon will take on one of its types as its Terra Type. This means Slowpoke can claim either a Water or Psychic Terra type.

There are two methods players can use to capture a Pokémon with a unique Terra type. is the first Spot and catch glowing Pokémon in the wild, Glowing Pokémon indicate that they have a random Terra type.

You can find Terra Shards scattered throughout Paldia and in the Great Crater of Paldia in Area Zero. The most efficient way to collect Terra Shards is by completing Terra Raid Battles, given that they are handed out as rewards.
