How many Pokemon are there? Including every new Scarlet & Violet Pokemon

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet added over 100 new Pokémon to the national Pokedex, so let’s break down the total number, types, and generations of Pokémon below.

The first generation of Pokémon arrived when Pokémon Blue and Red were released in 1996 in Japan and 1998 in North America. Since then, The Pokémon Company has developed a multitude of Pokémon games spanning eight generations over 25 years — including the latest games in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

With each game, trainers are introduced to a new batch of memorable Pokémon. On November 18, Scarlet and Violet delivered the ninth generation of Pokémon that trainers are now able to capture, train, and partner in battle.

Here’s a complete rundown of how many Pokémon are currently out there.

How many pokemon are there total?

As of November 23, 2022, are currently 1,008 pokemon who have appeared in the Pokémon video game franchise.

No additional types have been added since then, and Scarlet and Violet do not provide a new one.
