Following a settlement between Fortnite and the FTC, Epic Games is being forced to refund players for unwanted purchases. Here’s how to check if you’re eligible for a refund on Fortnite skins, and how to get your money back.
In the years since Fortnite became a global sensation, Epic Games has made millions of dollars through the sale of crossover skins and cosmetics. From Star Wars events in Chapter 4 and Marvel Season to skins from The Witcher and My Hero Academia, the store is constantly brimming with items.
However, after reaching a $520 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, Epic will pay $245 million in refunds to players who were tricked into purchasing “unwanted” cosmetics.
Here’s how to find out if you’re eligible for a Fortnite FTC refund, as well as how to claim your share of the settlement.
Who is eligible for the Fortnite FTC refund?
Behind an investigation, the FTC found that Epic Games had “charged parents and gamers of all ages for unwanted items and closed the accounts of customers who filed fraudulent charges with their credit card companies.” had a dispute.”
This means that anyone who meets the following criteria will be next in line to receive a Fortnite FTC refund:
- Parents whose children made unauthorized credit card purchases from the Epic Games Store between January 2017 and November 2018.
- Charging Fortnite players with in-game currency (V-Bucks) for unwanted in-game items (such as cosmetics, llamas, or battle passes) between January 2017 and September 2022.
- Fortnite players whose accounts were disabled between January 2017 and September 2022 after disputes with their credit card companies over unauthorized charges.
The organization hasn’t provided any details on how much eligible players will receive, but it could vary depending on the number of purchases made.
How to claim a Fortnite FTC refund
Right now, any Fortnite players who feel they meet the refund criteria no need to do anything, The FTC is still working out an official refund program, and those eligible will receive an email at the same email address used for their Epic account detailing the next steps.
